This changes the front-facing API to use AsRef instead, since this is generally more user-friendly, as you can pass in
&str,String,Path, orPathBufinto the function.The trade-off here is that you can't use lifetimes to store a Path, so it would require some extra allocation, but considering all the functions that are used here only for configuration, it wouldn't be that much extra memory.
